A Closer Look: Miss Danger’s Royal Heart JSK

January 16, 2022

Hey all! I have a super simple post this week, just of a few photos of one of my latest lolita fashion arrivals – Miss Danger’s beautiful Royal Heart JSK in Red. I’ll give a few of my thoughts on this JSK as well, but as I’m sure you will be able to tell by the photos, I’m absolutely in love with it!

Here’s the full view; I do have this piece pinned back on my mannequin as I (who selected a Size 9 for this JSK) am significantly larger than my mannequin. Please disregard that! The bodice is this beautiful velveteen material while the skirt is made of Russian Orthodox Brocade. The outer layer is this incredibly soft tulle or organza like material. It is absolutely breathtaking!

Starting with the bodice, we’ll take a look at this stunning embroidery – the main reason I bought this jumperskirt, to be quite honest. The golden embroidery thread looks super luminous on the red fabric background. While I’m usually not a fan of big names printed on clothing, the Miss Danger branding feels well suited to the dress as a whole and doesn’t detract from my enjoyment.

One unexpected yet beautiful detail on this JSK that I never noticed before I received it are these crystal details attached onto the brocade. It’s a detail that seems so small on a screen but when you get to actually see it in person, it adds so much elegance and character to the piece!

And here is the bottom of this dress with the overskirt layer shown. I’m not sure if the photo portrays it as well as I’d like, but the material of this is so so soft – not the scratchy tulle feeling I was worried about. It’s very clear that everything used to construct this piece was incredibly high quality. The floaty feeling of this fabric makes this piece feel almost angelic in a sense. Very royal indeed!

Here’s one last photo. The velveteen bow you can see between the bodice and skirt portions of this JSK is so darling.

I hope you all enjoyed these few detail shots! I’m in love with this piece and the work done on it by the team at Miss Danger and highly recommend visiting their shop if you haven’t already.

Until next time!

2022 Wardrobe Post

January 9, 2022

Hi all! As has been the tradition in the lolita fashion community for the last 10+ years, January of every new year is typically wardrobe post season. This year I’m so excited to finally join in on this fun! Ahead is my wardrobe post. As a side note, all of the dresses in this post were acquired by me between November of 2020 through December of 2021. Enjoy!

A few notes:

  • Click on the names of each item to bring you to the corresponding Lolibrary page. If the name is not a link, please assume that I was unable to find the lolibrary link for said item. Sorry for the inconvenience!
  • This post only includes main pieces and blouses. I feel as though my socks/shoes/accessories are pretty unremarkable – I do have a couple of photos of my lolita closet where you can see them included in this post, though!
  • I will include dresses that are altered and dresses I plan on having altered, just for reference.

 The Closet

The Closet/Mostly Everything

Here’s my closet for all of my EGL stuff! This is located a bit of a walk from my room in the house in a spare storage closet. Here you can see my dresses, shoes, headwear, bags, and more!

The Door/Shoes

Here are my shoes! Most of these are offbrand/taobao shoes, with the exception of one pair of BTSSB shoes. Can you spot them? (Spoiler: They’re the white flats.)

One Pieces

Bodyline’s Moeran Bolero-Styled Tiered OP (Beige, 2L)

I got this piece off of Lacemarket in 2021 and actually made a blog post featuring it! See it here. I love the versatility of this piece – and I have to mention, it is one of the most comfortable pieces I own. It’s very generously sized, even more so than Lolibrary or Bodyline would lead one to believe.

Handmade Rococo Style OP

This handmade OP came from someone on Lacemarket! It’s really beautifully constructed and the fabric choice is perfect. I’m hoping to install a zipper to make this dress easier to get into! At the moment it’s quite a struggle to try and get into it since this dress does not contain much shirring.

Bodyline’s Sailor Marine Pleated OP With Waist Ribbon (4L)

I don’t really have a lot to say about this one, I bought it around the time it was first released earlier in 2021. Unfortunately the fit on this OP is not as generous as I anticipated. Regardless, I really look forward to trying the sailor style once I’m able to make it work!

Jumperskirts

Metamorphose 3 Tier Frill JSK (2021 Release, Plus Size, Red)

I love this dress so much I could talk about it forever. I have no idea how Metamorphose managed to make me obsessed with a non-printed piece, but they managed to do it! I saved up for a hot minute for this and was luckily able to get it before it ran out of stock.

Metamorphose Flower Dance for Vulnerable Beauty Frill JSK

First brand piece I ever bought new from the website. This fits me comfortably despite me being over the measurements provided through Metamorphose. The shiny gold details on the print of this dress are stunning as well! My favorite detail, though, are the glass beads on the big  center bow.

Metamorphose Tales of Kingdom Bustle JSK (2017 Release)

I found this dress on Wunderwelt and lurked on the listing for over a month before finally taking the plunge and buying it. It’s got a feeling of wear but the print is as good as new. I love the royal feeling and intricate details.

Alice And The Pirates Oath of Rose ~Rondo of Love and Betrayal~ JSK II

The first Alice And The Pirates piece I ever bought new! I liked the price of this (it was on sale) along with the print on it, although the neck detail reminds me of a controversial Diamond Honey piece…

Alice And The Pirates La Traviata ~the time this flower dies~ JSK I

I saw this dress, oddly enough, for sale on Depop for a reasonable price and immediately bought it! The details are so stunning and it makes me want to see the opera this dress is based on. It is in line for alterations.

Alice And The Pirates Poison de L’Amour Juliette JSK (2012 Release)

Now this right here was my ultimate dream dress for years. 9 years, to be exact. I first saw it when I was 12 and I never actually thought I’d get to own it. I’m so lucky! This piece was altered by a local seamstress to fit me better.

Alice And The Pirates Elizabeth ~Bride of the Death~ JSK I (2017 MTO)

A dream dress of mine! A comm member was selling this and the moment I saw the post I ran to her messages lol. I do need to get it altered so it can fit.

Alice And The Pirates Secret Adventure and the Winery of Happiness JSK II

Wine print! I love this dress, all of the details are to die for. It was the first brand dress I bought on the release date.

Angelic Pretty True Rose Story Special JSK

My first-ever brand JSK!! I will love this piece forever; I had it altered by Denise of Thistledown Emporium to fit me a little more comfortably and she did an amazing job.

Taobao/Glitzy Wonderland Luckypack Astrology College

I got this piece through Glitzy Wonderland in a lucky pack! It’s super comfy, and although the material is a little shiny it’s great for going out and not worrying about messing it up. Easy to clean!

Infanta Broken Doll, Broken Image JSK

Love this color scheme! The details and print on this dress are seriously gorgeous. I got this from Night Whisper Lolita.

Infanta Avenue de Champs-Elysees JSK

I also got this one from Night Whisper Lolita. It was my first main piece I purchased since re-entering the fashion as an adult.

NSG Lolita Painting Series Seeker JSK

This jumperskirt is even roomier than I expected! It also has a bow which I forgot to attach for this photo as I usually leave it stored elsewhere.

Miss Danger Royal Heart JSK (Size 9, 2021 Release)

I pre ordered this back in June of 2019 and received it on December 31 of 2022, just in time to be part of my wardrobe post!

Skirts

Bodyline’s Military Sweets Skirt

I got this piece from a comm member in 2021; it does have alterations to give some extra room in the waist.

Bodyline Floral Corset High Waist Skirt

This skirt is so pretty and surprisingly well constructed! It’s got a super flattering fit and the color is so cute.

Metamorphose Rose Letter Mini Skirt

A really great find on Lace Market! I think I only paid around $35 for this skirt. This was also my first Meta piece.

BB&B Deco Review

January 2, 2022

Hey friends! I apologize for my lack of usual content on Instagram recently; I did unfortunately catch COVID and while I’m recovering smoothly I haven’t wanted to get any germs on my dresses so I haven’t dressed up as much as I would like recently! Regardless, I hope you’re all having a great second day of the new year.

Back in December I placed an order with BB and B Deco for their Ready to Ship Sale and decided I’d post a review for y’all! This is my second purchase from BB & B and I’m happy to report that it surely will not be my last. Let’s go into the review!

I placed this order through BB&B’s website on December 1st after receiving an email from them (highly recommend joining their mailing list by the way) informing me that they would be temporarily adding a Ready To Ship Category to their website. After a little bit of browsing I fell in love with their Crowned Unicorn set. It reminds me a lot of a unicorn plush my boyfriend got me when we met in person for the first time so I just had to have it!

For this order I purchased the long unicorn cupcake necklace and the matching dangly earrings. My order shipped out from BB&B in California on the 6th of December and arrived at my home here in Michigan on December 11th. Not bad at all! As soon as I saw the mail arrive I booked it out to my mailbox and gleefully brought my package in.

One thing I adore about BB&B is not only their products themselves, but the packaging. It really feels like opening each order from them is an experience which I cannot get enough of. The outside of my package was adorned with a sweet holiday stamp, and even the neat arrangement of the tissue paper inside my box seemed like an ode to the attention to detail BB&B is so well known for. Beneath the pink tissue paper was the gorgeous box I know so well!

Nestled inside of the box were my two jewelry pieces, encased in these protective pouches (along with some care instructions).

And, like a kawaii matryoshka doll, inside those pouches were my jewelry pieces!

They were even cuter in person than I was anticipating. While I will always urge people to be extremely careful with their jewelry from BB&B seeing as they are little pieces of art and should be treated as such, I will note these feel sturdy in the hand – significant but not too heavy. The tiny crystals adorning my little unicorn cupcakes immediately caught my eye!

I also loved that the necklace was attached to the deco piece by the ear as an ‘earring’ – this is one of those details I would have never thought of had I designed this, but it’s so clever! I have a somewhat particular eye for detail as many lolitas do and I physically could not find anything wrong with these pieces!

Another detail I love – the metal base of the necklace actually has this adorable scalloped edge and is emblazoned with BB and B’s branding!

I am super relieved to report that these earrings are comfortable to wear; I have sensitive ears and heavy earrings are like a waking nightmare for me. These on the other hand are the perfect weight and the metal did not cause any skin irritation (praise be!).

All in all, I am absolutely thrilled to own another piece by BB&B. They blow me away every time I see one of their pieces with their craftsmanship and this time was no different. Thanks for reading!

Until next time,

1 OP, 3 Looks

December 19, 2021

Hi all! I recently acquired a JSK from bodyline, one of my first monochromatic solid color pieces, and I couldn’t help but think about how versatile this piece could be! Around the same time, I stumbled upon this wonderful blogger and was immediately inspired by her “1 Dress, 3 Looks” series and decided to try it out myself!

Let’s get into it!

Look One: Chocolate!

I would definitely say that this look is the closest to what I had in mind when I originally purchased this piece; the slightly warm tone of this dress in my mind is a perfect match for a fun chocolatey theme! It reminds me of making hot chocolate and having cookies on a cold winter day.

I paired this OP with some ivory cable-knit tights from Target and some Bodyline flats for comfort, and to make this coordinate a warmer option for winter months (although I’d suggest a jacket to go with, in that case). I also wanted to pair it with the iconic Swimmer Biscuit bag and a similar looking beret from taobao to tie the biscuit theme together. I thought that these wristcuffs from Angelic Pretty were a perfect match, along with the matching earrings and necklace from AP as well!

My only big concern with this set is that I worry the browns would all look mismatched in person. Moving on…

Look 2: Pink and Classic!

This next set I went with is a more classic look with the slightest hime lean thanks to the shoes and pearls.

I took advantage of the fact that this dress is photographed slightly pinkish through bodyline’s site and paired this OP with the cutest pink heels. Very rococo! I thought the lace tights were a perfect match with such a dainty feeling. The bag, from Cambridge Satchel Company, seems to be a perfect color to compliment the main piece. The bolero by Innocent World helps keep the refined theme going, along with matching the color of the shoes to balance the look out a bit. The headpiece is another Innocent World piece which I imagine would go with the tights perfectly.  Lastly, the pearls seemed to be the easiest choice with this coordinate as I didn’t want this to feel too over-the-top.

I imagined this as a great set for transitional weather like in Springtime. The bolero could help keep warm while not being too bulky. This next coordinate I imagined for summer:

Look 3: Cottagecore Vibes!

For this last set I really wanted to go off of the cute cottagecore aesthetics I saw all of this past summer. For this look I’d remove the optional front corseting from the OP. I’d also tuck the ribbon neck accent into the OP so it wouldn’t be visible to keep things simple.

I thought this cute lace apron conveys my idea so well, I really wanted this to feel like a dainty romantic summer outfit. I paired it with this lace headdress which sort of reminds me of a bandana but elevated. Keeping with the lace theme I’ve selected some short(-ish) lace socks with a cute frilly detail on top, and some Ivory heels with more lace accents. See a trend here? Haha. To keep with the cottagecore feeling I selected this adorable wicker basket purse as the handbag, and I found this cute cameo necklace off of Etsy (made by BotanicalBirdJewelry).

I hope this post enlightened y’all a little bit in terms of my process when creating coordinates, and maybe it even inspired you to try some new things with a dress of your own!

Until next time!

Michigan EGL Society Fall Tea

November 21, 2021

Hey all! Hope you’re having a wonderful pre-holiday weekend.
My lovely local lolita fashion community held our annual fall tea this Saturday, and since I documented some great photos I thought I’d share!

I woke up slightly late on Saturday morning and had to scramble a little bit getting ready. I was caught in a rut deciding between two dresses, and even once I decided on the dress I had an even harder time deciding on shoes! Ultimately, though, I decided on the following coordinate.

The jumperskirt I wore was the amazing Plus Size 3 Tier Frill JSK in Red by Metamorphose. I love this dress and would honestly probably live in it if I could. It’s super comfortable and has a really nice quality to it. It’s weighty enough to be a good dress for the fall/winter season, but not so heavy that it would be impossible to wear in the summertime either!
The blouse is actually from Target! Their summer collection this year had so many great staple pieces for lolitas, specifically their blouse selection was really impressive. This blouse has tiny embroidered flowers all over it, along with some folded detailing on the sleeves. It’s even complete with ruffled details on the peter pan collar!
The socks, bracelets, and necklace I believe were actually from SheIn. I really don’t recommend shopping for actual lolita main pieces on sites like SheIn, but they are a great affordable resource for things like basic purses, costume jewelry, and socks.
The shoes are the Bodyline rocking horse shoes in white. This was the first time I had ever worn these outside of the house and I’m proud to say I did not break an ankle like I feared! The foam platform makes these shoes feel pretty supportive, almost bouncy in a way I did not anticipate.
Lastly, the rectangle headdress was from TaoBao!

I’ll preface this by saying that this was my second-ever meet in the Michigan community, and it was amazing! We visited a local venue, Tonia’s Victorian Rose, to partake in a little brunch/tea party. It was my first time in the area (and at this tea room) and I have to say I was really impressed. I arrived just in time and proceeded inside after nearly forgetting to put money in my parking meter. I was greeted by a kind host and could immediately see a bunch of members of my community in a side room! I took a seat and was able to pour myself tea from a selection of either raspberry tea or earl grey. They were both great.

The tea room was amazing. There was so much attention to detail in the decor, and I absolutely loved looking at each of our unique teacups and saucers. As more and more people arrived we all chatted about various topics including but certainly not limited to Thaksgiving plans, Kumya phone holders, and glittery blouses. One of my favorite things about being a part of a community and attending meets is being able to chat about the fashion with people who understand and actively participate in it. The fact that a room full of lolitas can find the tiniest details you put care into when planning a coordinate and compliment them always fills me with joy.

Shortly after taking a seat and enjoying some tea, we were served our first course. Cream of Asparagus soup – I had never had it before but it was a smooth, pleasant soup great for a cold day.

We enjoyed our soup, and after a few more refills of raspberry tea our hostess came out to provide us with our food and explained a little bit about what we were eating. It was really cool to learn so much about the differences between an American style tea party versus a British tea party. I learned that we were served American scones, which are a little sweeter and richer than a British scone which would usually require a side of clotted cream to combat the dryness of it. I never knew that!

Our trays of food were delicious and perfectly arranged. They included chicken salad on croissants, cucumber tea sandwiches (a favorite of mine), salmon tea sandwiches, quiche lorraine, scones, lemon curd filled pastries, fruit, chocolate, and even a small serving of whipped cream which was prepared in-house.

The food was all to die for. The chocolate and quiche were big hits among the group. I loved the lemon pastries and the adorable cucumber sandwiches. I even took a photo of one!

The food was deceptively filling, a fact I was very pleased to discover! After we had all gotten the chance to eat and finish our tea it was time to take some photos. We ventured our way outside to discover it was even colder than when we arrived! I looked around and got to admire everyone’s adorable jackets, which has inspired me since to start shopping for my own lolita-friendly coat. I guess I had underestimated the weather and didn’t even think to bring a coat until I was already halfway to the venue – and whichever coats I did have, none of them would have matched very well.

Not to worry, though! The no-coat conundrum was worth it for the super cute photos.

A group photo of my wonderful community, and…

Another one of us who wore red! Everyone looked so great. The group of us split from here, with some community members heading home and some of us opting to explore the downtown area. I stayed, determined to get some hot coffee to warm me up before the trip home.

As you can expect for the group of 10+ of us who decided to stay, we definitely gathered some attention. I’m very pleased to report that we had no major negative interactions and were able to share a bit about lolita fashion with a few curious passers-by! We were even lucky enough to meet a person who was familiar with the fashion and wanted to join but didn’t know where to start! We directed them to a few beginner friendly resources and invited them into our comm, so hopefully we have a new member soon!

After a long journey (and by long I mean a few blocks of walking, if that – just stopping a lot more than anything) we arrived at the coolest coffee shop I’ve seen in a while, called Dessert Oasis. It was warm and the jazz music (and promise of hot coffee) was enticing enough to lure us in.

It was a really cool spot with a nice vibe about it, and some really talented baristas. The line basically stretched throughout the entire store, but the coffee was well worth the wait. I ordered one of their signature drinks called “The Versailles”, which they described as a spin off of the 18th century hot chocolate – an espresso drink with dark chocolate and a spiced syrup which was created in-house. After I placed my order, I was handed a mysterious playing card – this is how they would find me to deliver my drink. Once it arrived, the coffee definitely lived up to my expectations!

After enjoying our coffee and some more conversation, a few of us realized that our parking meters had run out! It was time to say goodbye, and as we hustled outside to our cars a block away we realized it had begun to drizzle! The drizzle was sort of a wintry mix and by the time I was in my car driving home, it was definitely snow.

Over all, I had a lot of fun out with everyone on Saturday. I hope this post inspires you to try something new, go somewhere you haven’t been before, or just to spend time with friends! It was a much needed excursion for me and the perfect way to welcome the winter season ahead.

Until next time!

Our (Early) Thanksgiving 2021

November 14, 2021

My family and I celebrated an early thanksgiving this weekend, so I thought I’d take you along for a little bit of it!

My wonderful boyfriend and I started the morning early on Saturday (at about 6 am although we originally planned for 4am) to get started on some of the prep. It was one of those quiet moments I really appreciate these days; I pulled up a chair, swaddled myself in a blanket, and sipped on coffee while I watched Paul prepare a gorgeous 20lb turkey for us to eat later. He dressed it up with some butter, lemon zest, thyme, and a few other tricks I can’t quite remember. We stuck it in the oven and went on with the rest of our day.

Something I love to do on Thanksgiving (and I’m sure most people do) is reflect on the things that I’m grateful for, and for me one of the things that comes to mind is lolita fashion. I have a supportive family and loving boyfriend who allow me to express myself through my clothes, and this year I’ve finally been financial a financial spot where I’ve been able to invest in building a wardrobe. I reflected on the 12 year old me who wanted to be a lolita so bad, and how happy I’m sure she’d be if she was able to see me now.

I thought it only fitting to wear lolita for the day! I threw together a quick coordinate with Alice and the Pirates’  Secret Adventure and Winery of Happiness JSK II. It felt like a festive print and was one of my favorite brands at 12. It still is to this day, in fact! My outfit breakdown is as follows:

I got these super comfortable shoes and socks off of Amazon; the shoes are just some burgundy Mary Janes and the socks are the ones designed to go under cute winter boots, but I find that they go perfectly with a lot of my coordinates!
The jumperskirt, of course, is Alice and The Pirates’ Secret Adventure and Winery Of Happiness JSK II which flaunts some somewhat plus-size friendly measurements! I really love this JSK, the feeling of the material is almost similar to a textured cotton or linen despite being synthetic.
The blouse is one of those generic short sleeved crop top blouses you can find on most taobao retailers, this one is from the brand Smiling Angel. The fuzzy coat is one I actually found on clearance at Forever 21! It’s super warm.
The necklace and earrings I’m wearing are from BB&B Deco, these are from the Queen of Hearts set they have! They are the cutest little burgundy and brown macarons with a gorgeous heart design on top.
The bow on the left side of my head is the matching bow from the Secret Adventure and Winery of Happiness set, but in green (I accidentally purchased the wrong color lol). The bow on the back of my head is a satin burgundy bow set on a barrette. I believe it’s from Forever 21.
Lastly, I got the red heart purse from taobao.

So, after I got all dressed, boyfriend and I headed out to Nino Salvaggio’s, a grocery store in the area that flaunts fresh produce, freshly baked goods, a beautiful pastry setup, and is all around a good place to go to burn through some money. Upon coming in I was pleased to find gift baskets galore, and plenty of festive decorations already set up for the holiday season.

We came in for only a few things but left with more than we anticipated, including these gorgeous pastries.

Paul’s choice is on the left, a bourbon pecan pie. Mine is on the right, a fruit tart with flan filling.

After our excursion, we picked up some donuts from Tim Hortons for the family and headed home so Paul could start on a family recipe of his, ham and pineapple. While he worked on that, I got started on the deviled eggs.

We took a much needed 10 minute break (at this point it must have been close to noon or 1 pm), and resumed our activities in the kitchen again. I whipped up my green bean casserole and then cleaned and decorated for our guests who were arriving shortly. Paul stayed in the kitchen, working on mashed potatoes butternut squash soup.

My guests arrived shortly after! It was my aunt, uncle, cousin, and her daughter. Between them and my family at home we served a total of 10 people. We popped open some wine and Paul finished up on the turkey and gravy just in time for us to eat around 5:30.

The food was amazing! I was too hungry to snap photos of most of it, but I did get this photo of the soup Paul made – best soup of my life.

We wrapped up the evening after dinner with some Harry Potter while my boyfriend, dad, and uncle played drums and guitar downstairs in the garage. Our dessert options, kindly provided by my aunt, were cheesecake, pumpkin roll, and pecan pie – all of which were amazing.

All in all, I had an amazing thanksgiving surrounded by people who make my days so much brighter. I’m so happy to be where I am today – even when things get difficult I know I have a great hobby, a steady job, a loving boyfriend, and a supportive family.

What are you grateful for this Thanksgiving? Do you have any traditions you’re excited for? Let me know!

I’ve been off of social media more or less for a little stretch now but I feel like I’ve been better for it, and now I’m really excited to be back with a better mindset. Specifically, I’m really trying to be mindful with what main pieces I purchase and being more creative with what I have. While I still love purchasing main pieces and don’t plan to stop expanding on my wardrobe, I want to purchase things because I know I can really do something great with it, instead of being driven by the rush of a new purchase and impulse.
